Is Macronism responsible for the polarization of the political field around the extremes? The proponents of this thesis argue that the policy of “at the same time” would have deprived both the right and the left of oxygen and pushed their disgruntled voters towards the extremes instead of the convenient outlet of alternation. To put an end to this trap, we would have to return to the traditional political game. I do not believe this is desirable for three reasons.
The first is due to the long term of our political history. Both the right and the left were built around alliances of social classes. The right from the entrepreneurial bourgeoisie and the peasant property owners: freedom to undertake, individual responsibility and minimal State. The left from the working class allied with the petty bourgeoisie of public services: solidarity and development of collective services.
