An Israeli air strike has hit Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley hard, destroying a three-story building inhabited by several families. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, eight people have lost their lives, including women and children, in what appears to be one of the bloodiest attacks in recent hours. Rescue operations, coordinated by the Lebanese Red Cross and the Civil Defense, have allowed dozens of injured people, many of them in serious condition, to be evacuated to hospitals in the region.
This attack is part of a series of Israeli air strikes that have affected several locations in southern Lebanon since early today. Between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM (local time), the villages of Debbin, Deir Serian, Tayr Debba, Maarake, Bedias, Bazouriye and Majdel Zoun were hit, along with Tebnin, Souane, Qabrikha, Nabatiyé el-Fawqa and Kfar Remmane. These strikes caused significant damage to residential structures, raising fears of further casualties among the civilian population.
The most devastating attack occurred in the Nabatiye region, shortly before dawn, around 4:30 a.m. local time. The bombings leveled entire residential neighborhoods, causing severe damage and spreading terror among the population. During the night, the Baalbeck region was hit by a hail of fire: around 40 air strikes devastated the surroundings of the city, known for its ancient Roman ruins. During one of these raids, on the road from Douris to Baalbeck, nine people were killed. The Lebanese Ministry of Health described the operation as one of the most dramatic moments of the entire offensive, with widespread damage and devastating human losses.
In the village of Shaat, also in the Bekaa Valley, an entire family was wiped out by an Israeli bombing. According to rescuers and local witnesses, the scene that unfolded after the attack was described as a real massacre.
Israeli attacks did not spare other locations in southern Lebanon. Overnight, the towns of Tayr Felsay, Tayr Harfa, Srifa and Wadi el-Kfur were hit by shelling, while phosphorus strikes were also reported near Naqura. The consequences for the civilian population have been very serious, with the area now at risk of having to deal with the health consequences resulting from the use of weapons prohibited by international law, in addition to material damage.
Among the victims of the night attacks are two civilians, an engineer and his wife, killed in a bombing in Nabatiye al Fawqa, near a highway. Their deaths have sparked outrage and grief among the local population, who continue to suffer the consequences of a conflict that shows no sign of abating.
The escalation of the last few hours risks further worsening the situation in southern Lebanon, which has long been the scene of clashes between Israeli forces and local militias. The Lebanese Ministry of Health has launched an appeal to the international community to intervene to put an end to the violence that is decimating the civilian population and destroying entire communities. However, at the moment, there are no signs of a possible truce, and the Lebanese population continues to live in uncertainty and terror, with the sound of jets resounding incessantly in the skies.
