Built at the beginning of the 20th century, this millstone house was certainly in its original state, but its potential seemed limitless. Spotlight on the living room, which has become a refined designer cocoon, where it’s nice to come together.
At Studio Klein, interior design and decoration are one – and this large-scale renovation is the perfect illustration. For six months, it was in La Frette-sur-Seine, between Val-d’Oise and Yvelines, that the metamorphosis of this house into a 250 m² millstone, built on two levels on the hillside, with a breathtaking view of the Seine, took place. From the first visit, this exceptional property won over a Parisian couple, young parents of twins, in search of a new, greener living environment. To highlight the character of this residence while adapting it to their daily lives, they gave carte blanche to Stéphane Satorra and David Duron of Studio Klein.
If the building, formerly a holiday home, was healthy and well maintained, its original plan, dated and too compartmentalized, no longer corresponded to current uses: off-center kitchen, sequences of rooms not very fluid, obsolete technical networks… Despite everything, the charm still operated, thanks to the period bow windows on the ground floor but also the exposed beams upstairs. An obvious, dormant potential. Reorganized from top to bottom, the house now finds a more coherent circulation, better aligned with today’s family life. The kitchen, previously isolated, is now at the heart of the house, directly linked to the dining room and the large, modernized living room. While the ground floor retains traces of the past, the upper floor – already remodeled over time – has been completely redesigned: a new architectural departure, for a new life.
Before the intervention of Studio Klein, the living room of the house already benefited from high ceilings and exposed beams. Charming assets unfortunately overshadowed by a decoration that is, to say the least, invasive, made up of imposing furniture, chosen without harmony with each other.
Now connected to the dining room by a freshly created opening (on the far left), the living room breathes more and establishes itself as the centerpiece of the house, in a fully assumed inside-outside spirit, with the Seine in the background, always on the left. In terms of decor, we’ll be amazed by the spectacular Screen
The saturated shades, taken from the Resource color chart, dress the space with character: no less than a dozen colors make up the interior of this furniture, inspired by Anglo-Saxon atmospheres, resolutely trendy this winter. All in an elegant staging, where the eras dialogue with subtlety and audacity. Hats off to the artists.
