The singer from Wales has opted for a new life under the Portuguese sun for several years. Bonnie Tyler, whose state of health is very worrying, bought a house in this waterfront town. But not only that!
Bonnie Tyler, who we learned was placed in an artificial coma on Thursday May 7, 2026 – after undergoing emergency surgery in Portugal – had spotted before anyone else the beauty of the Algarve, the flagship tourist region of the summer for tourists. The hit singer Total Eclipse of the Heart bought a house in a seaside town where she spends a good part of the year.
Bonnie Tyler, based in Portugal: where does the singer live?
The singer, now aged 74, admitted to Faro hospital for a “emergency bowel operation” according to his agent, was visionary in settling in Portugal, and more precisely in the Algarve region, by the ocean. A love that is not new! “In 1978, I fell in love with the Algarve, after recording my third album in a villa in Vale do Lobo”she said to The Timesin 2019. “We worked all day, then we went to the little restaurants on the beach that served until late. Nothing beats grilled piri-piri chicken in a shack on the sand. So simple and perfect,” added the star.
Moving to this region of Portugal therefore seemed obvious to the interpreter of It’s a Heartache : “In the early 1980s I bought a house in Albufeira (40 minutes drive from Faro, editor’s note) with my husband (Robert Sullivan, Editor’s note). We now spend about six months a year there.”
To create a cocoon of love, they had to have patience. “We had the original villa demolished and rebuilt with large windows to take advantage of the views,” she added. But that’s not all. The couple also own a yacht, moored in Vilamoura. “We regularly take friends and family. Our favorite place is a small island just off the coast of Faro, called Ilha do Farol. It has a beautiful long beach, a lighthouse and no cars. When we’re feeling adventurous, we sail to Sagres, on the western tip, where the Atlantic opens,” said Bonnie Tyler.
Bonnie Tyler doesn’t forget her Wales: her real estate catalog is gigantic
Although Bonnie Tyler has chosen to live a large part of the year in Portugal, she has not forgotten her native land: Wales. The singer and ill-fated ex-Eurovision contestant is deeply attached to her Welsh roots, having grown up in Skewen, a small village in South Wales.
“No matter what, I always come back to Wales. I’ve lived in the Swansea area all my life and had my first holiday in Porthcawl. I live in Mumbles now. It’s a beautiful part of the coast. The area has changed a lot over the years, with many restaurants and bars opening up”she said, still in The Times.
Furthermore, with the money earned during her career, Bonnie Tyler and her husband invested in real estate and, as reported Hello!the couple has invested in no less than 22 properties in Berkshire and London as well as a farm in New Zealand.
