An icon of Finnish design, this is a brand that has survived the ages without showing the slightest wrinkle. It was high time that it arrived at our home, in a colorful setting that brings balm to our hearts, and to our interiors.
Few Nordic decoration brands do not have points of sale in France, and yet this irresistible Finnish brand remained. Founded in 1951, this design house masters the art of print like no other. Initially specializing in fashion, it is today a reference in decoration. Its founder, Armi Ratia, became known and noticed for her colorful dresses with bold and geometric prints, going against the fashion of the time. The success was immediate, notably thanks to the Jokapoika model as well as the designs of artists like Maija Isola, creator of the famous Unikko floral pattern.
It was later, faced with the craze for its famous prints, that the brand extended its universe to household linen, tableware, wallpaper and decorative accessories, becoming an icon of Scandinavian design. It is therefore no coincidence that IKEA is collaborating with her in 2023, for the Bastua collection. Uniqlo, Adidas, Crocs and, more recently, Artek followed.
Delighted to satisfy its French fans, the brand has chosen to open its very first store in the heart of the Marais. Colorful, in total agreement with the brand’s credo – “invite each person to be happy as they are” – it exudes joy of living and favorite creations. Behind its green facade, the interior is inspired by the Helsinki textile printing factory: a place where industrial architecture, bold patterns and a warm atmosphere meet. Concrete and steel rub shoulders with touches of color and texture, while iconic prints are displayed on textiles, ceramics and furniture, transforming the store into a living dialogue between art and design.
More than just a store, Marimekko Le Marais serves as a living gallery and meeting place for the community, a space where Finnish know-how is highlighted through the prism of modern and joyful living. A place that reflects the creative effervescence of Paris: creative, vibrant, inspired – and deeply faithful to its Nordic roots. “It’s about time!”, “The best news of the week” can we read among the many enthusiastic comments under the video announcing the opening on Instagram.
Want to liven up your wardrobe or your interior this fall? Marimekko Le Marais is waiting for you at 120 Rue Vieille du Temple in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, Monday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. See you there?
