Amel Bent, what she bought her mother thanks to her record sales: “It’s crazy”
The singer, now starring in the film My brother which was just released in theaters, grew up in a relatively modest background and was raised by a single mother. So when she had a smash hit with her song My philosophy in 2004, she immediately wanted to please her mother. The one who was becoming a star bought her a house, thanks to the money generated by this hit!
At the time, his mother was able to choose the house of her dreams, in Villetaneuse, in Seine-Saint-Denis. “It wasn’t even thanks to sales, but thanks to the advance I was given on record sales, it’s crazy“, she clarified when she was recently a guest on the show C to you.
But although she accepted this beautiful gift, there was no question of Amel Bent’s mother relying solely on her daughter’s fees. Even when the performer reached the status of star of French song, his mother did not abandon her job as a hairdresser. “When one succeeds, would the other members of the family automatically stop working? My mother couldn’t bear to live on my hands at all“, said the singer to Paris Matchin 2011.
Amel Bent, facing “poverty”: “I slept outside”
Amel Bent quickly achieved success after her participation in New Starand yet, she went through many trials before finally being able to shine in the spotlight. “I had that in me when I started. I rushed to the castings because, for me, it was a question of survival (…) I had to face the social barrier, poverty… When you don’t have money, it’s complicated to get started. To get to my castings, and in particular that of Nouvelle Star on M6, I took a train without a ticket. I also slept outside“, she declared in 7 Days TV.
The artist also faced many disappointments before realizing his dream. “I started doing castings at the age of 12. And the year of the baccalaureate (…) there was the casting of Nouvelle Star. My mother didn’t agree at all, she confused me (…) I went there like: ‘Come on, it’s the last casting. Every time someone will tell me ‘no’, like they have for eight or six years“, she told Konbini. The rest, we know it…
