You don’t have to be a DIY expert to make a slightly basic object much more chic. The proof with this DIY.
It’s no secret that Action stores are a real gold mine when you’re looking for inexpensive decoration. And Do It Yourself ace Flavie Poirier, @flavie_peartree on TikTok, understood this well. Full of good ideas, she enjoys transforming everyday decorative objects and accessories into pieces that look like they came from the minds of renowned designers.
When we know that light wood leaves room for darker species, she had the brilliant idea of dyeing this bamboo mirror and while it only cost 7 euros, it now seems 10 times its price thanks to to this tutorial accessible to all. Here’s what you’ll need to make it at home: a mirror with bamboo or wood edges, wooden balls (purchased from Rougier&Plé), hot glue, walnut husk, a brush, satin varnish, paper to sand and something to hang your creation on the wall.
Then, it’s very simple, start by sanding the bamboo edges of the mirror, then apply walnut husk using a cotton cloth that you will no longer use. With a brush, add a layer of protective varnish all around the mirror and leave to dry for the time indicated on the product bottle. Then take care of the wooden balls and soak them in walnut shell by dipping them in a bowl filled with a little of the latter. Wipe them roughly with the same cloth to remove the excess. Once they are dry, arrange them all around the mirror and secure them with a dot of hot glue, making sure to space them evenly.
When all the balls are glued and the glue has dried, you can then hang your chic new graphic mirror on the wall using a nail and a few taps with a hammer. In addition to this resolutely designer aesthetic, this revised and corrected mirror is literally to die for… It’s a “Mirror to the Maltesers”we can read in the comments of the video or when the decor makes our mouths water!
