The Madrigall group (Flammarion, Gallimard) continues to grow through acquisitions. A little over three years after buying the Éditions de Minuit, the group – which is one of the heavyweights of French publishing alongside Hachette, Editis, Média-Participations and Albin Michel – has just bought Christian Bourgois Editeur, for which it already ensured the distribution and dissemination via its own structures.
With this operation, the company headed by Antoine Gallimard gets its hands on the thick catalogue (4,500 titles by 1,200 authors) of this publishing house specialising in foreign literature (JRR Tolkien, Toni Morrison, Jón Kalman Stefánsson, etc.), which also owns Globe editions.
