The Montessori method appeals to you more and more, and you would like to arrange your child’s room according to its principles? Follow our advice so that your little one wins independently and flourish in his corner.
We no longer present the Montessori pedagogy, which favors a benevolent education in order that each child gradually becomes autonomous. And this quest for independence, you will understand, is mainly at home, where your child spends a large part – and sometimes most of his time. L’Development of his room according to the Montessori principles will therefore have all its importance.
No question, however, of feeling guilty if you cannot or do not want to follow all the recommendations of this education method: always proceed according to your feelings and your possibilities. The rule that you can still remember will be unclutter your child’s room, to avoid excess stimulation. We will also take care to secure the part, using-growth cache and ensuring that no object represents a danger for your little one.
To offer landmarks to your child from an early age, the Montessori method offers to create dedicated areas In his room, which adapt according to his age: an area for sleep, an area for toilet and an area for activities.
- Sleep area: As soon as baby is ready to join his room (whether on the return from maternity or after a few months), it is advisable to make him sleep on a bed on the floorwhich will allow him first to see his room in his entirety and, later, to be able to get up and go to bed independently. You can of course install this mattress on a soft carpet To amortize the first rolls, and if possible in an angle of the room, but your child will get used to this environment.
Always to avoid stimulating your baby just before sleeping, it is not recommended to place a mobile above your bed.
- Toilet area: You will spend a lot of time there during the first months of his life, the space for the exchange must be practical and organized, with everything necessary for the toilet – but not more! – available in small baskets. You will be able to perform clear gestures and explain to your child these daily actions that he will soon be able to repeat. You are free, if you wish, to decorate a wall adjoining images first in black and white then in color, or to place a mobile above the changing mat.
- Zone for activities: We promote as much as possible the gentle awakening of our infant by placing in a dedicated corner a carpet on which he can move freely and above which we can put a mobile or an arch with sensory objects like a wooden ring or a bell. A mirror attached to the wall will also do wonders to awaken the growing curiosity of our toddler.
Also install a small shelf Within its reach, on which you will have toys and storage baskets, and which must be ordered regularly.
From an early age, you can also develop a Reading corner Cozy, with books with free access, that you will read together to give it a taste for words.
- Sleep area: If we keep the principle of the mattress on the ground, we can still please our toddler who grows with a cabin bed, both decorative and fun.
- Toilet area: Your child walks and his little hands are more and more skillful, take advantage of it to use him when the time of the dressed in the morning comes and the care in the evening. He can choose his clothes if they are accessible – you will offer him for example two options, hung on a Portmeauteau placed at her height. Do not hesitate to use many baskets, for underwear, socks or t-shirts, and always store your shoes and slippers in the same place.
- Zone for activities: Your child grows and his space reserved for games can get rich, if you have the necessary room, of a small set Table and chair On which he will carry out all kinds of manual activities such as drawing or plasticine for example.
Between birthdays and the end of year celebrations, toys tend to accumulate at home? Try as much as possible to limit their number available so that your little one appreciates and take the time to play with each. Place a few in its shelf and in transparent boxes, then put the rest aside. Perform bearings Between the different toys so that your child never tires – but not too frequently for him to have time to create benchmarks.
