In certain Carrefour stores, a trick allows you to see several products displayed at zero euros on your receipt. A very different operation from classic promotions.
For several months, Carrefour has implemented a system that allows its customers to leave with fully covered products, without a coupon to present or a specific procedure at the time of purchase. The system remains integrated into the usual supermarket journey and only concerns a specific selection of items. These are most often Carrefour brand products, sometimes new products or references already on the shelves. But then, how do consumers go about leaving with free items?
Indeed, faced with customers who are increasingly attentive to prices but also to quality, brands are multiplying the levers to create commitment without relying solely on immediate discounts. For the Carrefour brand, this program makes it possible to precisely observe which products are chosen, with what frequency and by which customer profiles. By integrating this system, they refine their knowledge of consumption habits while giving their customers the opportunity to derive concrete benefit from their loyalty.
Concretely, everything happens from the customer area linked to the loyalty card. After logging in, a selection of eligible products appears and must be activated before shopping. These items can then be purchased as normal, in store or online, like any other product in the basket. Once the products have been tested at home, a questionnaire is available in the customer account to collect an opinion on each of them. When the responses are validated, the amount corresponding to the products concerned is credited back to the loyalty kitty, which can be used on future purchases. The name of this device: “My opinion makes it free”.
For regular customers, the accumulation of credits can quickly represent several fully supported products over the same period, provided you follow the planned steps and meet deadlines. Moreover, the system goes even further, integrating a sponsorship mechanism encouraging participants to invite other people to join the program. Clever.
