Health Insurance can now verify work stoppage remotely. Sick policyholders must be vigilant because they may be summoned by SMS, email or post.
From December 2025, a new method of controlling sick leave comes into force. From now on, sick employees stopped by their doctor can be monitored remotely by videoconference, in addition to traditional face-to-face checks. This system is generalized after three months of experimentation in Normandy, Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Occitanie. Objective: to streamline exchanges and avoid sometimes difficult travel when health is fragile.
Concretely, policyholders can be summoned by SMS, email or post. Two reminders are sent, then, on the day of the appointment, simply connect from a smartphone, tablet or computer to speak with a medical advisor. The interview takes place on a secure platform and makes it possible to verify that the stoppage is justified, exactly as during a face-to-face check.
For many employees, this remote control could represent a real relief: no more need to cross the city while convalescing, to drive with chronic pain or to organize emergency childcare. Health Insurance, however, insists: the rules remain the same. The insured must be reachable at the scheduled times, respect the exit obligations and be able to present the necessary supporting documents. A refusal of an inspection, whether by videoconference or in person, may result in the suspension of daily allowances.
The device remains flexible. If the person cannot connect, does not wish to use the video or if the doctor considers that a physical examination is essential, an office appointment is automatically offered. This telecontrol can also be applied in the event of a work accident, occupational illness or in certain disability claims.
This modernization comes in a context where stoppages linked to stress, anxiety or professional burnout are increasing, particularly affecting working women. For them, limiting travel during a stop constitutes a real comfort, but some are worried about a risk of surveillance perceived as more constant. Health Insurance points out that the requirements, guarantees and objectives remain the same, regardless of the control method. It remains to be seen whether this new practice will make it possible to simplify procedures, improve exchanges and reduce the tension often felt during a medical check-up.
