Lowered to 1.5% from February 1 next year, compared to 1.7% currently, the Livret A interest rate continues to plummet. He still established himself at 3% in January 2025 : which means that its rate has been halved in just one year. His remuneration, fixed by decree by the government, thus reaches its lowest level since 2022. Nevertheless, it is a return which will not not lose moneyconsidering inflation for December 2025, measured at 0.8% by INSEE.

If it turns out low payingthis regulated savings medium nonetheless remains the unbeatable star savers. Nearly 57 million French people hold a Livret A, or more than 80% of the population. The fact that he is without risk is one of the reasons for its success. The sums placed in this support benefit from a “fully guaranteed by the State», Specifies Bercy on its website. Consequently, this savings product does not enter into the deposit guarantee mechanism, which covers current accounts, housing savings (CEL and PEL) or the Popular Savings Plan (PEP), with a ceiling of 100,000 euros per depositor and per establishment.

Absence of taxation and simplicity

Added peace of mind no income tax and social security contributions. The interest on your Livret A does not pass through the “flat tax” box, increased from 30% to 31.4% since January 1, 2026 for certain investments. As for the bank with which it was subscribed, it does not charge no fees : neither at opening, nor on payments, nor on withdrawals, nor for annual management. The rate soon to be reduced to 1.5% will be thus net of taxes and fees.

Furthermore, the money paid is not not blocked. You can draw from this precautionary savings in a few clicks, by transferring the funds to your current account. Note that the ceiling for Livret A amounts to 22,950 euros. Beyond that, interest is capitalized, but it is no longer possible to make a deposit. Everyone can have one, even minorsfrom 10 euros of initial deposit (1.5 euros at the Postal Bank). However, it is prohibited to have several Livret A books.

Choose the popular savings account

To benefit from an advantageous rate on another regulated savings account, you must turn towards the THE Pthe popular savings account. His remuneration will also decrease on February 1, from 2.7% to 2.5%but remains one point higher than Livret A. French taxpayers can open a LEP means tested (for an opening in 2025, the last reference tax income should not exceed 22,823 euros for a single personcompared to 41,108 euros for a couple with a child). The rules of the game, in terms of taxation and state guarantee, are identical to Livret A. This time with a deposit ceiling of 10,000 euros, excluding capitalized interest. The fact remains that almost a third of eligible savers do not hold any, the Banque de France only lists 12 million LEP at the start of the year.
