Alain Delon has never been stingy with confidences about his death. The actor had even revealed precise details: the place, the number of people who could see his body, etc.
The funeral of Alain Delon, who died on August 18, 2024 at the age of 88, is being organized as fans of the late actor continue to leave flowers and messages on the gates of his property in Douchy, in Loiret. The actor himself had already largely taken the lead.
Douchy: the tomb of Alain Delon
Although he lived for some time in Switzerland – where his beloved daughter Anouchka Delon now lives – the actor of Cheetah had expressed the wish to end his days on his estate in Douchy, France. A place purchased in the 1970s and where he lived with his partner, the late Mireille Darc. On his 120-hectare estate, Alain Delon had prepared everything to best facilitate his funeral.
“Everything is ready, I have my tomb in my chapel, there are six places“, he had notably declared to Paris Match. This chapel was built near the main house of the estate and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Nearby, there is also a cemetery in which lie between 40 and 50 dogs who shared Alain Delon’s life: Loubo, his last dog, was saved by the Bardot Foundation after his death. Alain Delon wanted to be buried with his dogs and the Loiret sub-prefecture gave an agreement in principle. The actor had also had a vault built.
Alain Delon did not want a national tribute and even specified that he would only allow 15 people to come and see his body. A body that he had chosen in advance to be displayed on a black leather bed in his chapel.
Delon’s epitaph already known?
While his children, Anthony Delon, Alain-Fabien and Anouchka are forced to reconcile and talk to each other to organize their father’s funeral despite their quarrels, particularly legal ones, have they planned a special message on the actor’s grave?
Invited by Catherine Ceylac in 2018, Alain Delon revealed to her on air the epitaph that seemed to him the best to engrave on her tomb: “I have loved often. I have been wrong sometimes. But I have loved. It is I who have lived, and not a factitious being created by my pride and my boredom..” Words that resonate with You don’t mess around with loveby Alfred De Musset. It must be said that the star had had several great love stories in his life, both with Romy Schneider and with his only official wife, Nathalie, or even with the model Rosalie van Breemen…
