What jobs can you do with a professional baccalaureate?
The level of a professional baccalaureate diploma is equivalent to level 4 (like the general or technological baccalaureate), that is to say it allows you either to start a profession or to continue your higher studies with a BTS for example, spread over 2 years and giving rise to a level 5.
Once the Bac Pro diploma has been obtained, your child has several options:
- Directly integrate into the job market in a sector related to your training.
- Continue your studies via a BTS or a BUT and thus access a Bac+2 level while having acquired additional skills or/and having specialized further in a trade.
During their professional baccalaureate, high school students can complete several internships in a professional environmentpaid according to the level of study, and sometimes even a work-study program, depending on the chosen sector. The duration of the internships is 6 months maximum per year of training and by host organization. This first professional experience allows the student to discover the underside of a profession and to confront professional situations in real conditions.
Changes planned for the 2027 professional baccalaureate
Some small changes are to be expected for candidates who will take their professional baccalaureate in the summer of 2027. Édouard Geffray, the Minister of National Education, announced adjustments for the next session in order to “strengthen student success”. First, a return to the old model: the written tests will be organized in mid-June rather than in mid-May, as was the case until 2024. High school students in the professional stream will therefore align with the timetable for the general and technological paths. Second change: the “differentiated route”, also called “Y route”, is renamed “personalized route”. It will be reduced by half and brought forward during the year. After going from six to four weeks, it will now be offered in March for two weeksbefore the closing of Parcoursup wishes. Students will have to choose between two options: either two weeks of training in a professional environment, or two weeks of preparation for further studies.
