Delphine Wespiser (Temptation Island): “I am serene, I am happy in my relationship”

Delphine Wespiser is back as host of Temptation Island on W9, this cult concept which accompanies couples ready to test the strength of their love… The one who was Miss France 2012 returned to her role in the adventure and spoke about her relationship, her projects, and what she thinks of the new beauty queen, Hinaupoko Devèze…

What do you like about this program and why did you agree to present it?
I agreed to present it because it is a program of emotions. And I am someone who is very much into human connection. There are some very nice encounters that take place within Temptation Islandand even couples who form. Above all, the goal of the show is for couples to be able to accept their truth, whether it is positive or not. If we want to pretend, we can contain ourselves for a few days. But if we break down, it’s because in the end, there was something we were missing in our relationship and we weren’t fulfilled.

Were you watching the show back then, in the very early 2000s?
I was quite young and I think I didn’t fully understand the issues. And then, I saw a bit of the clash side, we remember Brandon and company…. Today, I take it a little more philosophically and I’m a big girl, I’m no longer going to throw stones at someone who is going to make a mistake: it’s not cheating for the sake of cheating, but because we’re not completely aligned with the relationship we’re in. It doesn’t matter, we’ve all been in this situation, either one day making a mistake or one day being cheated on.

Will there be any changes from previous seasons this year?
This year there is a screen live which will allow, when there is an alarm, everyone to see this screen. Images will be broadcast outside the beach. Because knowing that our partner cheated on us yesterday is one thing, but if it happens before our eyes, it increases everything tenfold. And we become aware of things more easily.

Do you manage to build relationships with the candidates on set?
Yes because I think there are a lot of things that happen through the eyes. And I am the one who receives their emotions directly, it is in my eyes that they try to find answers or comfort. So we have a pretty special bond, even if I can’t talk to them as much as I’d like because outside of the cameras, I can’t. During filming, there was a girl who learned that her boyfriend had cheated on her and who looked me in the eyes, as if she were a friend, and said to me: “But Delphine, isn’t that true?” She was looking for an answer in my eyes. And then she went to cry on the beach and, for the first time, I went to cry with her because I couldn’t leave her. There, I was no longer in my role at all, but I was in the truth of the moment, of this young girl who was suffering.

If one of your friends participated in the show, what would you advise her before starting the adventure?
I would advise him not to overreact, it could cause an escalation. And that’s usually what happens with Temptation Island. But if we were filmed in our everyday lives complaining about our darling to our best friends, we could have problems! I think not every word or confession is good to make public. If the person we are talking about hears this type of comment, it is extremely hurtful.

Could you have participated in this type of show now or when you were younger?
(She thinks) In the future, it’s not necessarily a program I would like to participate in because emotionally, it’s a lot. And even if our relationship is really strong, we will go through some crazy things during these three weeks anyway. And I got my share! So I wouldn’t want to do it to myself again. And then, we go there when we have doubts whereas today, we are no longer on this level with the person with whom I share my life. I am calm, I am happy in my relationship, we are there for each other. He’s my soul mate. I no longer need answers to questions.

You have been in a relationship with a narcissistic pervert in the past. Do you think this type of profile can be unmasked thanks to the show?
Clearly, and this year, there are two in the show! And why do I say that? It’s simply because they both have the same vocabulary as my narcissistic pervert. There are two profiles that are really very toxic and are, unfortunately, impossible to repair. And in these couples, the person opposite is always totally blinded or under the influence, as I was. We don’t even hear what the person opposite is saying to us and it’s us who don’t let our tormentor go. We are so addicted to this toxic adrenaline and we believe we are capable of saving the other…

How do you view your career today?
I’m very happy because it’s very varied and I manage to reach different audiences. The youngest see me as White and Red (in Fort Boyardeditor’s note), even though I’ve been playing these characters for 13 years now, I grew up with them. My position as columnist in Don’t Touch My Post also allowed me to speak to certain categories of the population and then there is this show, Temptation Islandwhich is a unifying program, like Miss France.

Is there anyone you would like to see succeed Olivier Mine in Fort Boyard?
Not particularly… But I think that in any case, the chips are already more or less made. In any case, Olivier Mine has had a superb career at France Télévisions and now, I think he is enjoying himself in the M6 ​​group with all the programs entrusted to him. It’s fantastic for him, he’s very happy.

What are your next projects?
Theater is really something that really tempts me. There, we are on a theater play project for 2026. And then, new TV projects. I hope to have other shows that suit me. I am also launching my range of organic cosmetics and, in another area, I organize retreats for women at home. For two days, I accompany them, I reenergize them. They often arrive very poorly, almost depressed, and leave transformed, luminous. They create links between them, leave with friendships, projects… It’s my way of contributing.
