At 81 years old, and after sixty years of career in France, Dave has become French at heart. But does the singer attached to his adopted country have its nationality?
If Dave knew how to conquer the hearts of the French with legendary titles such as Vanina or even Near Swannit is perhaps also because he devotes unlimited adoration to his adopted country…
Is Dave French? “I realized that…”
Living in France for more than sixty years, and in a relationship with the lyricist Patrick Loiseau since 1971, the 81-year-old singer would not return to his native land for anything in the world. However, in We’re doing TV againthe show by Jade and Éric Dussart broadcast on RTL, Dave confided that he did not have French nationality: “No, still not.”. “I remained Dutch because when I arrived, there was no dual nationality. And I didn’t really want to lose mine right away”he first explained. Before concluding: “And then finally, I realized that it was no longer very urgent because being European, it doesn’t change anything”.
Asked by his host about the possible symbolism of applying for French nationality, Dave responded straight away: “I married a Frenchman, that’s already quite a proof of love”. And the artist whose reputation is well established is still very attached to the Netherlands where he was first known “like the Dutchman who walks in France”. “It amused them a lot. I only have one success in the Netherlands”he also said. This will not prevent him from giving five concerts there in the coming weeks!
Dave freewheeling in the Netherlands? His brothers asked him to “calm down a little”
Known in France for his legendary outspokenness, Dave was then questioned by Éric Dussart about his possible speaking engagements on Dutch television. “Do you say as much horror on television in the Netherlands as in France?”the host called out. He replied that he allowed himself more to say what he thinks since he “no longer his parents”. Before continuing: “When you no longer have your parents, you can say what you want. From time to time I get a phone call from my brothers asking me to calm down a little. I have two brothers who are in the Netherlands”.
Recently, the Dutch singer did not hesitate to express his thoughts about the Enfoirés troupe! Although he participated in the concert once in 1997, he regrets not being invited now. “I wasn’t asked. I think it’s generational. Which I understand but it’s not the same family. I’m not bringing anything in there. They take the last one who won the Star Ac or things like that, and not a singer who is four times 20 years old“, he declared on RTL.
