Are you no longer burning your candles because they are almost finished? There is a very simple method to give them a second life.
To warm up fall and winter, there’s nothing like lighting a few candles in the house. But when there is only a small part left, it is much less pretty and we often prefer to move on to the next one. This year, don’t throw away your leftover candles and save money, literally. You can easily recycle them to give them a second life in your interior. How ? It’s quite simple, just follow this almost free DIY.
To start, collect any leftover candles you have in your home. This can be candles or even pillar candles. Place them in a saucepan and melt the wax in a bain-marie for a few minutes. Use wooden chopsticks to collect the old wicks from the bottom of the pan. Choose a container that will become your new decorative object, such as a recycling jar, a bowl or any hollow dish. You will simply need to ensure that the material tolerates heat well. Get some wooden bits and metal clips (you can find everything for example at Cultura for around 5 euros). Attach the wicks to the clips and dip them in the wax so you can stick them to the bottom of the container. Depending on the size of it, you can place one or more strands. Then all you have to do is pour the wax into the container to create a new candle. To avoid residue in the new wax, use a sieve. Then let it dry, then cut the wicks to the right height, only once the wax has set.
As you can see in Flavie-peartree’s video at the top of the article, you get an ultra decorative candle, even more stylish than the first version. This DIY is ideal before the party to breathe a warm atmosphere into your interior. And if you feel like it, you can even give it as a gift under the tree: it will be a unique gift at a very low price.
