To enhance the carriage of the head and give it a royal appearance, not all forms of necklace are equal. Advice from an expert.
If clothes are often the priority of fashionistas, we forget that well-chosen jewelry can also change an entire silhouette. Like clothes, pieces of jewelry have the power to enhance (or not) a body shape; if we follow a few principles. In the case of the necklace, it is above all the position of the head that it reveals. However, this jewel only enhances the outfits by teaming up with the shape of the collar worn. With a collar and neckline shape, the collar shape that suits it. In the columns of Cosmopolitan UKRebecca Bowyer, celebrity stylist, gave all her advice for choosing the winning combinations.
Let’s start with the V-neck. Naturally considered the most flattering of neckline shapes – its plunging silhouette being designed to free and elongate the neck – it goes with everything. However, the stylist has a preference for long necklaces with pendants, like long necklaces. For fashionistas with a “showy” style, the stylist suggests the possibility of accumulating several necklaces of different lengths, in order to extend the line already drawn by the neckline itself.
If the simplicity of the round neck makes it a perfect playground for letting any piece of jewelry shine, Rebecca still recommends playing the sobriety card by opting for a fine necklace, seemingly nothing, that you would wear every day – like a family jewel. The ideal? Let it follow the lines of the collar and fall at the level of the collarbones. And for 90’s addicts, the choker alternative can add a touch of cool while enhancing the neck. Result ? A look that would make many jealous.
Turtlenecks and other high collars such as the funnel neck do not require increased attention to collars since by nature they conceal the neck. According to the stylist, there is therefore no point in wearing one: “A high collar is generally more flattering without a collar”she recalls. However, if the passion for jewelry is stronger than anything, bet on earrings. They will do wonders.
Now let’s move on to the necklines. With its very particular shape, the sweetheart neckline is a delight in pieces imbued with delicacy. A short necklace, with a thin, thin chain, will enhance the look of anyone who follows this advice. The objective here is to highlight the cutout: the necklace should therefore not be too busy so as not to steal the show.
Same story for the square neckline: the stylist recommends wearing short, thin necklaces, which do not break the geometric lines of the garment. They must fall just below the neck line but not lower, to magnify the head carriage of all fashionistas. “You can also add more necklaces with this neckline shape. Try stacking chokers and chains together. Make sure the necklaces stop just above the neckline.”
Finally, the Bardot neckline – which frees the shoulders – delivers its full potential with necklaces with long, thin chains. The extreme length of the jewel makes it possible to fill and/or compensate for the void left by the Bardot shape. Just like the V-neck, it is therefore recommended to accumulate pieces of different lengths and/or sizes to add a touch of modernity, such as a choker with a long necklace.
