An icon of French fashion for over a century.
The end-of-year celebrations are in full swing: anonymous and celebrities alike don’t miss an opportunity to look their best. Flashy jewelry, sparkling sequin dresses, luxury bags reserved for special occasions: everyone pulls out all the stops to find theirs more stylish than ever. But in this ocean of parties and glitter, some stars prefer to keep it discreet. Going against the grain of a context that invites ostentation, they focus on a discreet look… but no less elegant. Among these fans of chic without exhibition, we find the TV presenter Ophélie Meunier. This year, for her family Christmas, the host of The Big Week therefore played the simplicity card.
On the menu for her outfit: a red sweater dress, right on theme, whose oversized cut was cinched by a black belt at the waist, black leather-effect leggings and, to finish, shoes in the same color. Simple at first glance, the ex-model’s look is actually based on a very couture detail…
To enhance this simple and unadorned outfit, she opted for a long necklace from the house Chanel. Embellished with small pearly beads and the famous double C logo, the necklace adds a sophisticated touch to an initially ordinary look. A stylistic association as if directly inspired by Gabrielle herself: the designer liked to scandalize her peers by mixing pearl necklaces with a formal imagination, with relaxed and more casual outfits.
As a reminder, during the Belle Époque, the pearl necklace was statutory, and symbolized wealth and power. In the 1920s, Coco kicked the anthill by wearing pearls as if they were fake, in the form of costume jewelry: at the time, this was enough to desacralize the world of jewelry.
This is how the saltire Chanel becomes an unalterable icon of the brand. Even today, it attracts many stars who wear it for ordinary days as well as for big evenings: Inès de la Fressange or Vanessa Paradis are among those who own this essential piece of fashion history.
But other younger generations are also won over by this iconic piece from the French house. Jade Hallyday herself unsheathed her necklace Chanel with a little black dress during her Christmas dinner.
Of course, the model is not exactly the same. But this is enough to demonstrate that it is timeless…
