Summer imminent and laser hair removal overdue? At the end of March, find out if you can still achieve clear skin and enjoy the bikini line without stress.
Summer is fast approaching, and with it comes the question that comes up every year: If I start laser hair removal now, will I really have time to enjoy clear skin at the beach? Between hair growth cycles and exposure to the sun, doubt quickly sets in. To see more clearly, we asked Samira Tahir, skin expert at Innerskin.
First reflex to forget: wanting to go through sessions at full speed. The laser only targets hairs in the active growth phase, which imposes a very precise rhythm. Allow one session every four weeks for the face, and every six to ten weeks for the body. And then there’s the sun, which seriously complicates the equation. Exposure too close to a session can cause burns, pigment spots, or even depigmentation. As Samira Tahir reminds us, this is not a theoretical risk: it is a clinical reality to be taken seriously.
The good news is that at the end of March, the window has not yet closed. Certainly, two or three sessions will not be enough to permanently eliminate hair growth. But the results are already very concrete: finer hair, significantly slower regrowth, visibly clearer skin. Fewer ingrown hairs, fewer restrictive routines, and above all much less stress when putting on the swimsuit.
For those who go on vacation at the beginning of August, Samira Tahir advises scheduling the last session around mid-July. This gives the skin time to regenerate and the laser time to fully produce its effects. During the holidays, the motto is simple: we shave, we don’t tear. The razor respects the hair follicle, which is essential for subsequent sessions to remain effective. Wax and electric epilators should therefore be banned, and depilatory creams should be used with caution.
A reassuring point for latecomers: even if you only do two or three sessions before summer, the benefits acquired do not disappear. The first interventions are already weakening part of the hair capital, and a summer break does not call everything into question. According to Samira Tahir, the protocol resumes very well at the start of the school year, by simply adapting to the new rhythm of regrowth.
This remains the case for dark or lightly tanned skin, for which certain lasers such as Nd:YAG offer better safety. Recent sun exposure, however, remains a relative contraindication, and the expert recommends waiting about a month after a marked tan before resuming sessions.
In the end, far from being too late, spring remains a strategic time to get started. By respecting the right rhythm between sessions and protecting your skin from the sun, it is entirely possible to visibly reduce hair growth and approach the summer with smoother, freer skin and much less constraints.
