While a cold wave is currently affecting France, you may be wondering what is the most economical solution for heating your home. But be careful, in 2022, the government has banned the installation of new oil boilers, which are particularly polluting. If the ban on gas heating is limited for the moment only to the construction of new housing (mainly individual houses), it will however be extended to collective housing in 2025. In this context, the future of boilers seems sealed, less for new housing. But rest assured, there are several alternatives to continue heating your home or your water, while limiting greenhouse gas emissions. And this environmentally friendly equipment is often less energy intensive, and therefore less expensive, than oil or gas boilers. Overview of existing solutions.
200 to 300 euros saved with the heat pump
A heat pump uses calories from the air and transforms them into heat to heat water. This water is then redistributed into the heating system to operate the radiators. “The heat pump consumes electricity but remains efficient in terms of energy consumption,” explains Romain Ryon, communications director at Effy, a company specializing in energy renovation work. It is estimated that a heat pump provides energy savings of around 200 to 300 euros per year, for an average-sized home, compared to an oil boiler.”
Explosion on rue Saint-Jacques: is it possible to ban gas in homes?
Please note that the installation of a heat pump, which takes approximately half a day, requires a prior assessment of the configuration of your home by a professional. On average, the cost of a water-wood heat pump ranges between 9,000 and 16,000 euros, depending on the size of the home. Allow around 12,000 euros (installation included) for equipment to heat a property with an area of 100 square meters.
You can benefit from financial assistance from the State to finance your heat pump via the MaPrimeRénov’ system. Its amount is indexed to your income level and can reach 4,000 euros for the most modest households. Several companies specializing in energy renovation work, such as Effy or Heero, also offer “energy bonuses”, which allow you to finance part of your heat pump. These bonuses can be combined with state aid.
The wood boiler
The wood boiler (pellets or logs) uses the energy of wood combustion, coming from an integrated tank, to heat the water in the central heating system. The wood supply can be done manually, with a bag, or automatically, the pellets then being stored in a silo. “The main advantage of the wood boiler is that the equipment allows you to obtain a very comfortable feeling of heat,” explains Romain Ryon. In addition, the cost of wood remains relatively moderate, and much cheaper than fuel oil.” Another advantage: the pellet boiler is an autonomous system, which does not require any action on your part. Allow approximately half a day for installation.
The anti-squat law passed, which will change for tenants and landlords
The cost of a wood boiler is however high since it oscillates between 10,000 and 20,000 euros (installation included), depending on the configuration and surface area of the accommodation. Count around 15,000 euros for a property of 100 square meters. The MaPrimeRénov’ renovation assistance system can once again cover part of your expenses. Aid can reach up to 8,000 euros for the lowest-income households.
The thermodynamic water heater
The thermodynamic water heater (CET) produces domestic hot water, it is made up of three parts: a heat pump, an electrical resistance and a domestic hot water tank. The pump recovers the calories present in the air to heat the water which is stored in the tank, waiting to be used. This equipment allows you to heat the water in your home for daily uses (bathroom, kitchen, etc.), in an environmentally friendly way. It is a source of substantial energy savings since they can reach 70% compared to an electric water heater. The cost of this equipment ranges between 1,500 euros for a 200 liter tank (2 to 3 people) and 2,500 euros for a 300 liter tank (4 to 6 people). The price of installation is around 500 euros. The thermodynamic water heater is also eligible for the MaPrimeRénov’ system. Aid can thus reach 1,200 euros for the most modest households.
