In 2025, the December holidays will start just before Christmas. In order to allow everyone to celebrate the end of year holidays together, the three academic zones will benefit from the same holiday dates.
Every year, the Christmas vacation are expected by all students (and their teachers!). They generally close the most trying period of the school year. Fatigue has built up over the weeks, the temperatures are cooler and obviously the children only want one thing: to rest at home and enjoy the end-of-year holiday season. A festive and joyful break for children, but also for parents.
What are the dates for the 2025 Christmas holidays?
This end of the year, students will be able to take a breather from Saturday December 20, 2025which marks the official start of the Christmas holidays. The return to school will take place on Monday January 5, 2026date of resumption of classes for all levels.
Dates of Christmas holidays according to areas
Moreover, unlike the other intermissions of the school year – namely the winter and spring holidays – the Christmas holidays always fall on the same dates for all zones A, B and C, from December 20, 2025 to January 5, 2026. As with the All Saints’ holidays or the long summer holidays, students in the area A (Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon, and Poitiers) will take their break at the same time as those of the zone B (Aix, Marseille, Amiens, Caen, Lille, Nancy, Metz, Nantes, Nice, Orléans, Tours, Reims, Rennes, Rouen and Strasbourg) as well as those of the area C (Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Versailles) and Corsica. Yes, it’s impossible to divide the holidays by zone when all the dates for Christmas and New Year are the same for everyone!
What days should you have the most time off at Christmas?
As for adults, it is possible to adopt certain strategies to be on vacation for as long as possible, by taking the minimum number of days off. This year, December 25 and January 1 fall on a Thursday, and are of course still public holidays. This means that if you land on Friday December 26 and January 2, you will already be able to enjoy two long weekends of four consecutive days. But to have the same vacation as your toddlers, you will have to spend eight days.
