Aging would occur much earlier than you think …
No one escapes it: the body ages, it is inevitable. Our biological functions gradually decline. Even if the process affects everyone, there are ways to slow down its effects: eating balanced, moving often, managing stress. But when is it all it really starts?
To find out, researchers from the New York Rockefeller University analyzed the state of health of nearly 1,000 people. By measuring 18 health indicators linked to different body systems (cholesterol, pulmonary function, blood pressure, hemoglobin, antibody, size/hip ratio …) from their birth to their 38 years, they estimated the speed of average aging, that is to say the pace to which the body changes over the years, as well as the age from which the body ages. According to them, it is from this age that pulmonary capacity decreases, cardiovascular health (blood pressure, heart function, blood circulation …) declines, the immune system loses in efficiency. Metabolic functions (such as blood sugar management) and renal also begin to weaken in some people. Clear signals that the body is aging.
According to these researchers, this physiological decline begins to manifest well before the appearance of visible signs of aging (white hair, wrinkles …). The first measurable transformations appear on average at 26 years. It is much earlier than we imagine. But this figure remains an average: the rhythm of aging varies from one individual to another, they specify the authors in their study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
These results make it possible to identify individuals at risk of accelerated aging before the appearance of diseases, paving the way for targeted preventive interventions. By identifying the early signs of aging, you can take place earlier with lifestyle changes, targeted treatments or medical follow -ups, to prevent age -related diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular disease …).
