It’s the time of colds… and the unpleasant symptom of a stuffy nose. An essential oil is particularly recommended in this case. Which ? The ideal way to unblock the nose is to turn to a decongestant and vasoconstrictor essential oil.
Several oils are recommended for colds, such as eucalyptus and ravintsara. But the one to use against a blocked nose is a particularly effective oil for clearing blockages quickly thanks to its strong scent. This essential oil contains menthol which will act quickly on decongestion and help reduce the edema responsible for nasal congestion. But be careful to use it correctly because it has several contraindications.
This anti stuffy nose essential oil is that of peppermint. You can use it very easily by pouring 2 drops onto a tissue (or a support dedicated to diffusing essential oils) and breathing it in or orally. In this case, you should pour 2 drops on a teaspoon of honey, a piece of sugar, bread or in herbal tea, without exceeding 5 drops per day. Remember that peppermint essential oil is never used pure.
If in addition to a blocked nose, you have a cough, you can put 1 or 2 drops of peppermint with 1 or 2 drops of Scots pine (mucolytic and expectorant) in a bowl of hot but not boiling water and let the scent of the oils diffuse in the room. In addition to essential oils, taking zinc, thyme teas, paracetamol and rest can help to better cope with cold symptoms. Peppermint essential oil is prohibited for children under 8 years old, people allergic to mint, pregnant and breastfeeding women. Epileptics or asthmatics should ask their doctor before using it. It is also not recommended in cases of estrogen-dependent cancers or mastoses, cholelithiasis, inflammation of the gallbladder, serious liver disorders, hypertension and during significant cardiovascular problems.
