Every winter, we all dream of the perfect coat, the one that will keep us warm without sacrificing our style. But still be careful to check this essential detail before buying.
Every winter, it’s the same ritual, we take out the boots, we look out for the first cuddly sweaters, and suddenly, we realize that our favorite coat is no longer up to par. Too thin, too heavy, not warm enough. In short, it’s time to invest in a new piece, one that will accompany us all winter without ever leaving us shivering.
In stores and online, the models compete with promises: oversized cut, insulated lining, “new generation” padding, premium wool… However, despite all these attractive mentions, it is not uncommon to go out on a cold morning and say to yourself: “How is it possible to be so cold when this coat cost me so much?” Because contrary to popular belief, it is neither the thickness of the coat nor its length that really determines its warmth.
Some ultra-light pieces prove surprisingly effective, while some visually “cocooning” coats provide very little protection once outside. But how do you recognize a really warm coat? Salespeople will talk to you about cuts, trends, sometimes thermal innovations, but very rarely about the most reliable indicator. The one that really lets you know if the room will keep you warm in December as in February. It’s simply about the composition and you’ll see, there’s no need to pay 200 euros to find a good one! The percentage of wool is where everything comes into play.
Your coat must be made of at least 50% wool. As Caroline aka @caroowild explains on Instagram “If you see a wool and cashmere label inside, it will mean that your coat will be made mainly of wool and cashmere. It will therefore be warm and soft.” Before adding “and if you see a woolmark label, it’s the best of the best because it’s a European certificate which guarantees that the coat is made from virgin wool which will be qualitative and durable.” At a glance you know if you’re really going to be warm.
And after that? Promised. You will never be cold again. By finally taking the time to check this key detail, you will turn each purchase into a real ally against the cold and your next coat will, for good, be up to the task of winter.
