Heating with a wood stove is much cheaper when it is equipped with an insert. This glass accessory improves the performance of the device and makes it very practical… but it gets dirty quickly. Here are our tips for restoring its cleanliness.
In addition to significantly increasing the efficiency of the fireplace, the insert protects against ash projections and helps keep the floor clean. Only small downside: its window gets dirty quickly. Here are some tips for cleaning it easily.
Effective products to easily clean the insert window
When burning, the logs emit combustion gases which are deposited on the interior walls of the insert window and blacken it. Be aware that pressed woods and softwoods are dirtier than hardwoods like beech or oak. In order to keep your glass clean, you should first carry out regular maintenance to prevent soot deposits from accumulating. The faster we act, the easier it is. Concerning the cleaning product, here is a small selection:
- A window spray cleans and shines.
- A oven stripping product also does the trick. Those who own a steam appliance will happily use it for their insert window.
Grandma’s technique that still works
If you prefer to avoid the use of industrial products, here is an environmentally friendly method to be adopted urgently. It only requires having newspaper:
- Form a ball using two or three sheets of paper, moisten it in water
- press it against ashes previously poured into a small container.
- By small rotating movements, rub the ball on the insert window.
- Repeat the operation two or three times, then clean the surface with a damp sponge.
Ash is an abrasive product that effectively removes traces of dirt!
Another eco-friendly recipe to try, white vinegar with a few grams of salt added. After soaking a cloth in the solution, rub it against the insert glass.
