Want to give a second life to a garment by changing it color? Opt for dyeing! Here are some tips.
How to dye your clothes?
It all depends on the material of clothing first. If it is cotton, you have the choice between two techniques, the most practical being to use a washing machine. In this case, you must first wash the fabric – whether new or not – to eliminate the primer’s primer and possible stains. Then, just put your garment in the machine with a program at 60 ° C without pre -winning, add tincture and kitchen salt which will allow the dye to penetrate the heart of the fiber. In terms of the necessary quantity, be aware that you will have to weigh your clothes dry to find out the number of dye boxes you will need. In addition, if you have for example 500 g of dyeing fabric, put the salt equivalent. After this full program, make a second machine with laundry. Finally, to clean it, remember to make a vacuum machine.
The other technique is to use a metal basin, in which you will boil your garment with dye and salt for 20 minutes. So don’t forget to wear rubber gloves because the dye stains the skin.
Can we dye any type of matter?
All natural fabrics can be dyed, but not polyester and acrylic. On the other hand, for fragile fabrics such as the veil and the musin, the best is to opt for a cold dye. The technique is almost the same as that with the basin, moreover you will need one. After soaking your laundry for 50 minutes with the dye, salt and a fixer, it is recommended to rinse it with cold water until it becomes clear and then wash it separately in hot water with laundry to make the excess dye disappear.
Can we dye a stained clothing?
If these are bleach stains for example, you must first discolor the fabric before dying it. Otherwise, in general, know that by dying a stained clothing, stains can become clearer or darker. Likewise, if you have a printed garment, the dye will let the patterns see in transparency, which may be interesting to make a style effect. Note that the basic color is very important. Indeed, the dye mixes with the original color of the fabric. Also, if you want to dye a blue t-shirt in red, you will have to go through discoloration if you do not want it to become purple.
One last advice to be completely satisfied with the result
When you do a hot and hand dye, use a color fixer to prevent the laundry from detecting. If you do your dye by washing machine, it is not necessary. In the event that colors have disgorged, there are “SOS” products. To get the best possible result, act quickly.
