In addition to his activities as a swimming coach, Philippe Lucas has sometimes appeared in TV shows. For example, he was for a time a columnist for the show France 2 Football between 2007 and 2008. A job which allowed him to collect very good sums since he received 25,000 euros per week at the time, although this amount hardly impressed him. “This is normal (…) This is the price“, he commented with detachment to Jordan De Luxe. He also made a few appearances on the M6 show, 100% footballthen became a consultant for France Télévisions in 2015.
The man who trained Laure Manaudou received the biggest check of his career by participating in a TF1 show called Who can beat Philippe Lucas ?. The program, broadcast in 2008, allowed a candidate to challenge the swimming coach during 15 events to try to win 100,000 euros. And for his participation in this show, Philippe Lucas received the considerable sum of 145,000 euros! He also appeared in several advertisements which allowed him, for a good part of them, to receive more than 100,000 euros…”But today, ads have nothing to do with them.“, he qualified.
Philippe Lucas ruined? “I burned my money on stupid things“
The 63-year-old swimming coach, in a relationship with a 25-year-old young woman, may have earned a good living, but he has no money saved! “I burned everything! Do you think I’m going to be the richest person in the cemetery?“, he quipped in front of Jordan De Luxe, adding: “I live day by day (…) I’m not saying it’s good, far from it, but it’s my way of doing things“.
“I wasted my money on stupid things. Cars, Porsches, Cabriolets, stuff like that. And then when you go to eat out every day, it’s a budget“, he admitted. And Philippe Lucas has not invested anything in real estate. And to decide: “Do you see me in the garden mowing the lawn or doing work? Never !“.
