After years of financial hardship, host Vincent Lagaf’ earned a fortune thanks to “Bigdil” on TF1. So much so that he lost his temper, he revealed, revealing his biggest purchase after a whim.
Vincent Lagaf’s life changed in the early 2000s with the launch of Bigdil, on TF1, a show which will attract huge audiences and allow him, overnight, to earn an indecent salary. A lot of money, very quickly, to the point of doing anything with it. In TV, your merciless universethe host also had no difficulty speaking freely about his relationship with money at this period of his life.
Vincent Lagaf’ overwhelmed by success and money: “I took the lottery in one go”
Vincent Lagaf’, now 66 years old, returned to the enormous popular success of Bigdiland on the colossal sums that this program brought in for him. “I’ve become a dickhead!”he immediately confided. Before explaining: “The more success we had, the more money we had, the more we went into crazy frenzies which made the public laugh, which attracted viewers. The people, the photos, the signings, the interview requests… Yeah, then you realize that… Wow”.
It must be said that The Bigdil enjoyed six years of success, attracting more than 6 million viewers each evening on TF1 – the 1000th episode reached 11 million viewers – and the money was flowing freely.
“I didn’t make any money until I was 30. And then at 30, I took the lottery, in order, all at once. Every day, you see the pill you take… I lost my temper, I became an idiot. When it’s a hit, you become the king! You go to Jaguar, you say: ‘I would like this Jaguar’. ‘There are six months to go’. I say: ‘No, you don’t understand, I’ll wait for you and I’ll go with you. How much does it cost? I’ll add 20% to you, I’ll leave with it'”, he said.
Vincent Lagaf’ disappointed: “When the show ends and you don’t see him anymore…“
Vincent Lagaf’, who relaunched The Bigdil on RMC Story in 2025 – Fridays at 9:10 p.m. -, had already made similar comments on the set of Legend : “I wanted something and I couldn’t wait. When your name is Lagaf’, suddenly the door opens for you. We move an appointment to see you again so you feel like you’re becoming important. No, you’re just a walking wallet and we know we’ll be able to tap into it…”
Coming back to earth after a slump, Vincent Lagaf’ took a step back: “You see people smiling, and you say to yourself: ‘If it turns out, this idiot is smiling at me because I have an audience of 5 million. And when the show ends and you don’t see him anymore, he doesn’t call you anymore, you can’t get him on the phone anymore, you say to yourself: ‘Yeah, look at this dirty bastard. So you don’t suffer from being alone, you suffer from not being mistaken about the appreciation you had of certain people. Once again: the big showbiz family…”
