Al Christmas concert, in the Senate, with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella present, the guest of honor is Claudio Baglioni, accompanied by the San Carlo orchestra of Naples. Receives the “martinella”, a name that historically alludes to the bell that in Florence in the Middle Ages was rung continuously to warn the people on the occasion of war and which today jokingly refers instead to the bell supplied to the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, used to call to order when the session in the chamber becomes turbulent.
Sings “Avrai”, Claudio Baglioni, which was written thinking about the future on the occasion of the birth of his son, but it is immediately after receiving the honor and introducing Life is now that the Roman singer-songwriterassociated by everyone, including the president of the Senate La Russa who mentions it, with the fine t-shirt This little big love, he gracefully takes the liberty of a non-circumstantial thank you, in which, flying high, he reminds politicians of the need to maintain a “vision”, not to lose the ideal tension. Assimilating the Senate chamber to «the largest theater that ideally contains all Italians», recalling the dream that music represents by giving emotions: «They say “he’s a dreamer”», observes Baglioni, «with a voice veiled with condescension, irony and sarcasm as if the dream were an enemy, but it is not an enemy. It is not the denial of reality, rather its affirmation. Visionaries and idealists are not just deluded and wasters. The dream is the antechamber of reality, the place in which an idea begins to take shape that sublime and enlightened souls pursue for themselves and for others, helping people to reduce the distance between things as they are and things as they should be. It is the journey between the eyes and the stars. And the lives of each of us have become better thanks to these dreams.” He names them, one by one, giving life to a thought, ecumenical but not watered down: «Democracy, justice, social equality, civil rights for example, which unfortunately in a large part of the world are still dreams and which elsewhere could also turn into new anxieties. And the greatest achievements are: freedom, equality, brotherhood, the Risorgimento, the Unification of Italy, the end of racial segregation, a united Europe, longed for in the darkness of a twentieth century brutalized by two world wars. The Liberation, the end of Apartheid achieved by Mandela, the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the end of much of real socialism.
He cites the achievements of science, in an international context increasingly tempted by anti-scientific tendencies: talks about «Sabin» and the non-patented polio vaccine to give to all children. He mentions the telephone, the radio, writing, the press, photography, cinema, television and above all «peace, the dream that we must never stop dreaming, because it is the only way to prevent the world from falling into a nightmare, to allow human beings to remain human.”
When he concludes he does so by taking the responsibility of addressing the institutional hall which is his audience at that moment, he moves from the dream to the concrete: he cites article 54 of the Constitution, he gives shape with a metaphor to the voters’ abstention, their hopes and their disillusionments: «You represent», says the singer-songwriter, «the guides of a people, you are somehow with discipline and honor the responsible and inspired authors of those great dreams that become reality for everyone qThis is your theater that an entire nation looks at, a country that attends with hope and trust, but also uncertainty and sometimes resignation, a half-empty theater is not a good thing. But for the concert to be successful, orchestra teachers are needed, but also as many spectators as possible.” You could even read a polite and polite “strigliata”, as is due to the singer of feelings, who however did not stop at the fine t-shirt.
