This year, there are certain days on the calendar that you should avoid at all costs when planning a wedding. Here are the dates to avoid.
Choosing the wedding date is quite symbolic since it will determine your wedding anniversary years. It is therefore not to be taken lightly. The date of the big day that we write on the wedding invitation also allows us to better organize the ceremony. While most couples prefer the eve of public holidays to be able to enjoy a long weekend with the family and dance until the end of the night, without the guests being stressed about going back to work the next day, it is often rare to get these precious dates, which are always taken by storm. And then, do not block a day before a public holiday if you organize your wedding at the last minute: your guests have probably anticipated their vacations well before receiving your Save The Date. To choose the ideal date for your wedding, start by looking at the worst times of the year to seal your love. The year 2024 is no exception:
We avoid exam dates. The baccalaureate exams begin on Friday, June 14, 2024 with the written French exam, and end no later than July 3, 2024 with the Grand Oral. If you have teenagers, or parents of teenagers among your guests, wait at least for the baccalaureate results, or even the end of the resits to organize your wedding. We know that this period is particularly stressful, so going to a wedding at this time instead of resting and revising is not a good idea (especially if you live far away). We also avoid Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 2, 2024, since this will be the day of the written exams for students taking the brevet des collèges.
From Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11, 2024, the 2024 Olympic Games will be held. Different French cities will host sporting events: Paris, but also Marseille, Nantes, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Nice, Villeneuve-d’Ascq near Lille and Tahiti. Such a competition will certainly impact transport traffic as well as the price of rentals in these regions. For guests who come from far away, this can therefore be a real problem. For the same reasons, from Wednesday, August 28 to Sunday, September 8, 2024, on the occasion of the Paralympic Games, organizing a wedding can be difficult to get around or find accommodation at a reasonable price.
Of course, we avoid getting married in the days before the start of the school year, especially the weekend of August 31 and September 1, 2024. Between the last shopping for supplies, buying clothes or school bags… Parents will be more concerned about how they are going to dress their children for their first day of school than about what dress or suit they will wear to the town hall or the evening.
Another date that may seem practical: Friday, November 1st or the day before, since it is a public holiday. However, it is also All Saints’ Day, or the Day of the Dead. A date that is not very romantic for a wedding. Finally, if you feel like organizing your wedding during the end-of-year holidays to enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights, be aware that your entourage may not be available since Christmas is a sacred time for children and they will probably be on the other side of France, to get together with family. Finally, the trap to avoid at all costs: getting married on your own birthday: the party that would mark both events at the same time on the big day, it may seem fun and festive… Except that you will have, until death do you part, only one date to celebrate and a priori, only one gift that will mark both your anniversary and your wedding anniversary.
