In December 2024, Sicily re-embraced the Body of Saint Lucia, in an extraordinary event that united dioceses, communities and different generations in a single journey of faith and light. The book “In the footsteps of Lucia” (Edizioni San Paolo) is available from today in bookstoreswith the aim of rediscovering Lucia’s testimony: collecting the words, the reflections of the bishops, priests and lay people who lived the pilgrimage of the saint as a sign of grace and hope. The voices of bishops such as Francesco Lomanto, Francesco Moraglia, Luigi Renna and Antonino Raspanti reveal all the strength of Lucia, a young and free woman, and her ability to still illuminate the path of believers today. An invitation to follow in his footsteps, to be credible witnesses of the Gospel in the world, builders of peace and bearers of light.
The book contains Pope Francis’ Letter to the Church of Syracuse and the Preface by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, who writes in the first pages: «In my service as Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, I often come across stories of male and female saints who meet (…) and who by meeting do good to each other, help each other and do good to others. In this context it becomes urgent to grow that culture of encounter that Pope Francis so often spoke about. We see many things but then we forget them, we haven’t looked at them because we don’t care (…) The name of Saint Lucia is a name of light and Christian tradition invokes her as protector of the eyes.”
The volume will be presented on December 15th in Syracuse in the Basilica of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro, on December 17th in Carlentini in the Mother Church and then on the 19th in Belpasso in the Mother Church.
The book was written by Salvatore di Salvo (collaborator of the Giornale di Sicilia, of “Maria con te”, editor of the Catholic weekly “Cammino” and director of Radio Una voci vicini inBlu, National Secretary of the Catholic Union of the Italian Press. He was councilor and Treasurer of the Order of Journalists of Sicily) and by Alessandro Ricupero (correspondent for the newspaper “Gazzetta del Sud” and correspondent for the “Ansa” agency; he holds the role of press officer for the Archdiocese of Syracuse and spokesperson for the Archbishop within the Pastoral Office for Social Communications and Culture).
