In autumn, the cold pushes cockroaches to settle in your home, especially in that corner of the kitchen that everyone forgets.
Even when you clean the house from top to bottom, there are always areas that you forget. Behind a piece of furniture, under an appliance, between two plinths. These narrow corners, invisible in everyday life, escape cleaning actions. Dust settles there, heat concentrates there, humidity settles there. Quiet areas, perfect for going unnoticed.
This is precisely what cockroaches are looking for. These discreet but tough insects like heat, humidity and quiet, dark, uncrowded places. They avoid light and move mainly at night. A trickle of water, a forgotten crumb, a little steam are enough to attract them. They need very little to survive, and even less to multiply. In a few days, a handful of individuals can give birth to dozens of new insects.
They are often found around kitchen appliances: behind the refrigerator, oven, toaster, or under the sink where water leaks create constant humidity. These areas offer them everything they need to live in shelter: warmth, food and protection. And because they move quickly and slip into the smallest gaps, they can infest a home without us realizing it.
But among all these corners, one place concentrates everything they love. A hot, humid and almost inaccessible space that must be particularly monitored: the back of the dishwasher. This is where they mainly take refuge, attracted by steam, small water leaks and remains stuck under the device. In autumn, when temperatures drop, this place becomes their perfect shelter. Protected by the furniture, invisible, they find everything they need to spend the winter without being disturbed.
Cockroaches are resilient, but they hate cleanliness and dryness. To prevent them from taking hold, empty your trash cans often, wipe the surfaces and don’t let water stagnate. Also remember to vacuum up crumbs under furniture and clean damp joints where they could slip. Above all, check that no leaks are leaking behind the dishwasher: a few drops of water are enough to attract them.
Finally, a simple mixture of lemon juice and water can serve as a natural repellent. Spray it in sensitive areas, under the sink, behind appliances and, of course, behind the dishwasher. Regular vigilance, a few simple actions and your kitchen will cease to be the ideal refuge for these unwanted guests.
