One of the main reasons is the multiplication of applications used on a daily basis. On average, a hundred are installed on phones, ten run every day and thirty each month. However, it is precisely those that we most often open who prove to be the most greedy. Streaming services, navigation applications, social networks and some games are among the worst. But not all have the same weight in the energy consumption of the battery.

Researchers from Atos and the Greenspector start-up have looked into the subject and their results are very clear: 77 % of the battery used every day is absorbed by the applications alone. The study, carried out on 35 most popular apps in the world, shows that game applications are not the champions of expenditure, contrary to what one might think. It is mainly web browsers and social networks that exhaust the telephone battery as quickly as possible.

At the top of the ranking are several search engines such as Opera or Google, but also X (ex-Twitter) and Facebook. And for those who won first place, the figures are clear: for three hours of use, the app consumes twice as much as the average of the other tested. The most energy -consuming application is none other than Tiktok. The Chinese social network, a teenager star, but now used by all generations, empty the batteries at record speed, twice as much as the others.

In this classification, Spotify, surprisingly, arrives almost last, which proves that listening to streaming music does not really empty a battery. YouTube and Netflix are in the average, far behind the big energy -consuming. In any case, be aware that on Android, it is possible to limit its use via energy consumption parameters. On iOS, deactivating the background update is also an option. Think about it!
