Some cities offer a daily life that many dream of. An international ranking has just designated the large cities where the quality of life is the highest in the world… and the podium has some surprises in store!
We all dream of settling in a city where transport works perfectly, where we feel safe and where the quality of life is there. But which big cities really tick all the boxes? To answer this question, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) scrutinized 173 cities around the world… and two of the three metropolises on the podium are located in Europe!
To establish this ranking, around thirty criteria are taken into account, divided into five main categories: stability, health, education, infrastructure as well as culture and the environment. On the third step of the podium, we find Melbourne, Australia.
Often cited among the most pleasant cities in the world, this place seduces with its balance between dynamism and nature. Renowned for its gastronomy, its numerous green spaces and its relaxed atmosphere, Melbourne notably obtains maximum marks for health and education. Its transport network and cultural offering also contribute to its very good ranking.
Just ahead, Vienna is in second place. Residents benefit from a particularly efficient health system and its education system is also praised by experts. The city is also known for its exceptional heritage, its imperial palaces, its numerous green spaces and its musical heritage (Vienna is linked to Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert). Long considered the most pleasant city to live in in the world according to this ranking, the Austrian capital retains a good place but has been dethroned!
This year, another European capital managed to steal first place. With an overall score close to perfect, Copenhagen, Denmark, is named the most livable city in the world. The Danish capital even gets top marks in several categories, including stability, education and infrastructure. Its transport system and its high level of security are also praised.
Known for its colorful facades, its emblematic port of Nyhavn and its famous Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen also seduces with its commitment to the environment. The city is multiplying cycle paths, green spaces and ecological initiatives that improve the daily lives of its residents!
