Each year, they come back! The spiders, discreet most of the time, suddenly appear in the corners of the house. If you see more right now, it’s no coincidence.
The end of the summer and the beginning of autumn mark a peak of activity. The nights become cooler: below 15 ° C, many spiders are already looking to get closer to homes. And when night temperatures descend around 10 ° C, the phenomenon is clearly accentuated. Added to this is the fact that adult males come out during this period to find females. Result: they circulate much more and naturally meet our houses. In this context, the interior, warmer and more stable, becomes an ideal shelter for them. This is why it is precisely now that they are trying to enter.
But if they end up inviting themselves to you, it is no coincidence. Above all, they are looking for a warm shelter and a reserve of food. Our houses bring together both: parts at stable temperature and small insects within canvas. But above all, they have a real guide to find the way: air currents. What you feel like a simple breeze under a door or near a window, the spider perceives it as an entrance corridor. It follows these invisible flows with formidable precision and ends up slipping inside. A crack, an ill -closed joint, an interstice under a door: as many passages which, for her, resemble an invitation.
The good news is that there are simple gestures to limit their entry. Start by clicking the cracks in the walls and checking the seals around the windows. Install door bottoms to block the passages at ground level. If you adore regularly, remember to close the windows in the evening, when they are the most active. Mosquito nets are also an effective barrier. And do not forget to regularly pass the vacuum cleaner to limit the presence of insects that could attract them.
Other precautions complete these gestures. Avoid storing wood or lots of leaves near the openings: these are perfect shelters for them. Reduce the too intense outdoor lighting because it attracts insects, and therefore their predators. Finally, keep in mind that spiders are useful: they naturally regulate mosquitoes, flies and other undesirable.
