More than 9 million French people have already received a refund last January. This time, other people are affected.
A few months after completing your income tax return, the tax services may tell you that you will recover part of the money paid. This type of reimbursement occurs mainly in two cases. The first: the sums deducted directly from your salary each month are superior to what you really owed to the tax services. This happens in particular if your income has decreased during the year without having reported it. The taxman then donates you what he calls the “TROTH TRUTH TRUS”which was taken from the source.
Another possible situation: certain expenses are entitled to a “restitution of tax reductions or credits”. This concerns, among other things, donations to associations, investments in rental real estate, home care costs, tutoring, gardening or DIY at home, or even meal preparation at home. In this case, the amount paid “To the balance of tax reductions and credits to which you are entitled”can we read on the website of the Ministry of the Economy.
The first reimbursements take place at the start of the year for the advance linked to certain tax credits. It was also carried out on January 15, 2025 in “More than 9 million households having benefited from tax credits and reductions in 2024”. For an average amount of 639 euros, a significant sum. For the balance or full reimbursement of certain tax advantages or the “tax overflow”, the payments take place later, generally between the end of July and early August.
“The exact date of the transfers is not known. But taxpayers will receive information well with their tax notice between July 25 and August 1” confirmed the Directorate General of Public Finances.
If you have to receive a refund, no action on your part is necessary. The taxman automatically proceeds to pay, either directly on your bank account or by check if your bank details are not registered. This transfer will appear on your account under the title “Revenue Revenues” and will come from “DGFIP Finances Publics”, specifies the website of the ministry.
