This concerns millions of motorists every day. In 2023, 440 people lost their lives in these circumstances.
On the road, as we know, even by driving cautiously and remaining attentive, unforeseen events can arise at any time, without always having time to react: sudden braking, an unexpected pedestrian, an error from another driver … and the accident can quickly happen. There are also these journeys that we know by heart, that we almost make an automatic pilot, without really asking questions. We sometimes forget to lift your foot, vary the route, to remain fully concentrated. Among these journeys, you probably know, there is the famous home-work course. Each day, millions of employees take the road to go to work, drop children at school or go to a professional meeting. Routine journeys, which are often trivialized, while they are among the first causes of mortality at work.
According to the results of road accident in France in 2023, “440 people died during work -related journeys”, Whether it is the home-work or professional journeys. What we know less, on the other hand, is that the vast majority of people killed during work -related journeys are men. “90 % of killed in mission journeys are men; 84 % of killed in home-work trips are men”indicates the National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory (ONISR) in its report.
Another alarming observation, and not least. There is a very specific time slot where these road accidents are particularly exploding: “They are concentrated between 6 am and 9 am for home-work trips when they take place throughout the day for professional journeys”, specifies Onisr. In addition, in 9 out of 10 cases, deaths take place during the week, on a working day, between Monday and Friday.
We can never repeat it enough: when driving, vigilance must remain total. A moment of inattention is sometimes enough to switch everything. This is all the more true for the home-work trip, which remains one of the most accident-causing. So no precipitation, no phone, and always the belt. The best habit is caution!
