Loving yourself is all well and good, but it can sometimes hurt your wallet. And the most unfair thing is that it doesn’t cost the same everywhere in France. Moreover, certain cities in France are price champions when it comes to love…
Being in love can cost a small sum between the tête-à-tête at the restaurant, outings for two to the cinema or even getaways to the hotel… For a couple, keeping the flame alive is also a question of money and too bad if it’s not romantic to say so. It’s even more expensive at the start of a relationship. This is what a study on the subject highlights today.
Indeed, the chat platform specializing in clairvoyance, Clairvoyance Chathas “wanted to find out which French cities offer the most affordable (or expensive) day out for couples wanting to enjoy some time together.” To carry out this study, the company focused primarily on French cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Then, it used several criteria to make its comparison, by collecting data from several sites: average price of a bottle of wine, a taxi ride, a meal for two people in a mid-range restaurant, a night in a 3-star hotel or even two cinema tickets…
In the end, this made it possible to assign a score out of 10 to each city and to reveal a top 10 in France. According to the results of their data, certain French cities are more advantageous from a financial point of view than others when it comes to dating for couples. So, while Paris is unsurprisingly in the top 3 cities where spending a day as a couple is the most expensive, it only comes in at the bottom of the podium!
In 2nd position, we find the city of Annecy, recently designated by a jury of American tourism experts as “the most beautiful place in France”. To enjoy its romantic and bucolic atmosphere without going crazy, you will still have to pay 263 euros on average. Sleeping in an idyllic setting is worth it…
And it is not the capital of the Côte d’Azur, the famous city of Nice, which will say the opposite. It is in fact the most expensive French city for couples according to this ranking. And its award for worst is justified: count on 80 euros for a meal for two, 137 euros for a night and skyrocketing taxi costs…. In total, your wallet will be relieved of the modest sum of 276.40 euros for a simple romantic evening not far from the Promenade des Anglais.
This is well above the national average which is around 209 euros. So, if you don’t want to break the bank, we recommend these three other cities, which are the cheapest to fall in love in France: Saint-Étienne, Besançon and Limoges. A bit less romantic on paper we grant you, but it’s all a question of point of view!
