Indulgence is one of the peculiar signs of the Jubilee years. The Apostolic Penitentiary has indicated the norms.
First of all, it can be obtained for oneself and for the souls in purgatory if they “undertake a pious pilgrimage to any sacred Jubilee place, in Rome, in the Holy Land or in other circumscriptions ecclesiastical designated by the local ordinary and there they will participate in the Mass, at the Liturgy of the Hours; at the Via Crucis; al Marian rosary; allhymn Akathistos; to a penitential celebration that ends with the individual confessions of the penitents.
Plus, you can get it «in pious visits to sacred places» if there «they will entertain themselves in the aEucharistic gilding and in meditation, concluding with the Our Father, the profession of faith in any legitimate form and invocations to Mary, Mother of God, so that in this Holy Year everyone “will be able to experience the closeness of the most affectionate of mothers, who never abandons her children”.
Who is prevented for health reasons, because he is secluded, or in seclusion or because he works in places of health, he can obtain an indulgence «under the same conditions if, united in spirit with the faithful in presence, particularly in moments in which the words of the Supreme Pontiff or of the diocesan Bishops will be broadcast through the media and will recite in their own home or where the impediment holds them back (for example, in the chapel of the monastery, hospital, nursing home, prison…) the Our Father, the Profession of Faith in any legitimate form and other prayers consistent with the purposes of the Holy Year, offering their sufferings or the hardships of their lives.”
Furthermore the Jubilee indulgence can be obtained by carrying out “works of mercy and penance” as «feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome strangers, assist the sick, visit prisoners, bury the dead. Advise the doubtful, teach the ignorant, admonish sinners, console the afflicted, forgive offenses, patiently endure troublesome people, pray to God for the living and the dead.”
As is suggested by rdiscover the penitential value of Friday «abstaining, at least during one day, from futile distractions (real but also virtual, induced for example by the media and social networks) and from superfluous consumption (for example fasting or practicing abstinence according to the general norms of the Church and the specifications of the bishops), as well as donating a proportionate sum of money to the poor; supporting works of a religious or social nature, such as those in favor of the defense and protection of life in all its phases, of abandoned childhoods, of youth in difficulty, of needy or lonely elderly people, of migrants from various countries who abandon their land in search of a better life for themselves and their families; dedicating a reasonable portion of one’s free time to voluntary activities that are of interest to the community or to other similar forms of personal commitment”.
