If Julie Depardieu could have simply wanted to follow in the footsteps of her famous father from a very young age, she initially preferred to chart her own path. Even going so far as to dream of really unusual careers.
On May 12, Julie Depardieu will be back on the small screen in the France 3 TV film Alexandra Ehle. A fiction in which she plays a brilliant but atypical Bordeaux forensic doctor. A career that she could never have pursued in real life. However, don’t think that Julie Depardieu had a clear destiny.
Julie Depardieu did not want to be like her father: “I really dreamed of impossible things!”
Gérard Depardieu’s daughter has also done everything to avoid following the same professional path as her father. In vain… Actress for more than thirty years, she initially had other dreams. “I really dreamed of impossible things!”she hilariously revealed to our colleagues at 7 Days TV. Before letting go: “People thought I wanted to be an actress like my father, but I definitely didn’t!”.
Moreover, the 52-year-old actress expressed it loud and clear: “When people asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, to make myself interesting, I always answered trapeze artist, even though I’m afraid of heights!”. Result: she first studied philosophy and psychoanalysis before finally realizing the facts and turning to cinema.
Julie Depardieu uncomfortable in her father’s shadow: “I had no ambition”
Today the mother of two teenagers, Alfred and Billy, the one who has shared the life of Philippe Katerine for more than fifteen years, with whom she lives in Yvelines, does not want to put pressure on her sons. She even admits not bothering them too much about it: “This question is excruciating! I avoid asking it to my children who are 13 and 14 years old. Finding a job that excites you is complicated”. Julie Depardieu tries to leave them free to make their choices as much as possible. And for good reason, she does not want to make them feel what she felt as a child: the difficulty of living in the shadow of her parents.
If everyone found their father “awesome”the young Julie Depardieu had a tendency to devalue herself: “I said to myself: ‘you, you’re nothing, you’re good for nothing’”. “I didn’t want to do anything, and above all not ask anything of them. As a result, I had no ambition. Maybe I didn’t live up to this ambition. Are overly ambitious people happier? I don’t think so”she explained. Before concluding: “I tell myself that as a parent, we do not have a destiny to impose on them. We can direct them, guide them, but the rest, they must find it for themselves”.
