Paolo De Chiesa from the ski passed, he was the “young” of the blue avalanche who in the eighties collected his inheritance, for some time it has been the technical voice of Raisport on Alpine skiingwe see him go down on the World Cup tracks with the camera, showing us the sets of the tracks. The knowledge of the facts does not lack and expresses it with great bitterness.
Today the state funeral for Matteo Franzoso are celebrated, the skier of the yellow flames, who passed away a week ago at La Parva in Argentina. After two dead can we hope it changes?
“I hope so, because after Matilde’s death there was no awareness. Everything went on as before. This time another boy died and then it seems that they have finally stopped, there will be the state funeral, nothing against but I will not go there, I will commemorate in private, but what I don’t tire of asking is a concrete change, since we are witnessing a slaughter. I ask myself, among other things, why for Matilde the funeral of state there were not: yet it was an army athlete “.
What should be done?
«Now it’s late, it had to be done first. The two most serious cases, that of Matilde Lorenzi, in my opinion archived too quickly, and that of Matteo Franzoso, from my point of view were caused by security problems: it does not convince me at all the reconstruction that Matilde would have died from a facade on the track, among other things there was no autopsy. Seeing the video of the rescue from the top shot by a mobile phone, I convinced myself that Matilde made a fortune on a currency of snow, removed the next day, and that this has slinging it out of the track: I believe that that curb, from which in any case it would have had to ski at a certain distance, should be protected. (The evaluation of the Bolzano Prosecutor’s Office that has archived the case is completely different, believing that the fatal event was caused by a merely accidental fact not even abstractly qualifiable as a crime: at this link the reconstruction of the judicial affair, ed.). Matteo Franzoso died because there were completely insufficient security measures, therefore vain. It’s not that you can go on as if nothing had happened ».
Yet it is said that over the years steps on safety have been made.
«It is true that in the world cup they went very far in protections, nets, Air Fence, mattresses, etc., so you don’t get out of the track, at best you hurt yourself, you can also kill yourself if you fall 140 km per hour, peaks the neck, the head, everything can happen for heaven’s sake, but you do not go out of the track as it happened in Matilde Lorenzi and Matteo Franzoso. The problem is that, on the other hand, in the training trays, safety is not even remotely comparable to the World Cup race field. Then I wonder, since the speeds in training on the free descent track is the same as the world cup, what is the difference between a world cup and a workout? It is as if in Formula 1 they tried the machines on circuits without escape routes, instead of as they do on circuits with the same standards of the race, it seems very simple to me ».
If he were the parent of a boy who races, what would he suggest to be careful?
“Given the times that run, if I had a child I would prefer to do another sport, because I find the safety measures on the training tracks for the approximate boys: traced on several files placed, in parallel, without spaces between one and the other, close to the edges of the track, with perhaps unprotected or protected trees in a summary way. The times have changed: today’s skis, even at the level of kids, go strong, already at seven years of age, dart at 50-60 per hour. When you lose control and go off track and you end up slamming against something, there are very serious consequences. If I had a child who makes competitive skiing now I wouldn’t be quiet at all. There is too much exasperation, the kids make too many tenders, they only make poles, they are not even more technically capable, because free skiing on the track and you only think about doing doors, this does not even lead generational change: many are starting to start, but where the boys and girls who will have to replace the great ones, the Goggia, the Brignone who would have been champions even in Burundi and do not make a text? “
Where are I, why do we struggle to find spare parts?
«A youth project works when many kids arrive at certain levels, but we are close to the Olympue in Milan Cortina and there are no spare parts, it means that the system is wrong. Moreover, it is too expensive: boys of 10-12 years of age spend to racing figures that reach 20,000 euros, but who can afford it? I would say that skiing is now a poor sport for rich, because in the end if you cannot allow you to set up the safest training trays it means that money is missing ».
