Moving bonus: definition

Financial assistance to cover moving costs

The moving bonus is aid paid, under conditions, by the Family Allowance Fund (Caf) or the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) in order to cover part of the expenses actually incurred by a move.

Moving assistance paid under conditions by Caf or MSA

According to articles D542-31 et seq. of the Social Security Code, the moving bonus is allocated to individuals or households caring for at least three born or unborn children who are moving into new accommodation. This bonus can be requested even if the move was not carried out by a professional, provided that you provide all invoices paid in due form.

Good to know: your company’s collective agreement may sometimes provide for moving leave and/or a moving bonus.

Who is entitled to the Caf moving bonus?

According to the Social Security Code, the bonus can be requested provided:

• to have at least three dependent children born or unborn;
• to move between the 1st day of the calendar month following the end of the third month of pregnancy and the last day of the month preceding the 2nd birthday of the last child;
• to be eligible for APL (Personalized housing assistance) or ALF (family housing allowance) for the new accommodation.

To note : the moving bonus is not subject to resource conditions.

What is the amount of the moving bonus in 2024 and 2025?

Of April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025the amount of the premium paid by Caf is equal to the expenses actually incurred for the move, within the limits of:

• 1,119.46 euros with 3 dependent children;
• 1,212.75 euros with 4 dependent children;
• 93.29 euros per additional dependent child.

How is the moving bonus paid?

The moving bonus is paid in the form of a single payment after production of proof of the expenses incurred (paid invoice from the mover or from the company that rented the vehicle). In the event of a precarious situation, it is possible to request an advance upon presentation of a quote. It can rise between 50% to 75% of the quote amount. You will then need to provide the paid invoice within six months following the move to be able to obtain the full balance of the premium.

How to obtain financial assistance from Caf to move?

Request the moving bonus on Caf.fr

Provided you are eligible, the bonus request must be made within six months following the move. To obtain it, you must send to Caf a file consisting of:

• Cerfa form n°11363*04 for request for moving bonus (this document can be downloaded from the Caf website and must be returned completed and signed);
• all supporting documents for costs incurred (moving company invoice, vehicle rental invoice, fuel costs, tolls, etc.).

Dispute in the event of a request refused by Caf

If obtaining the premium is refused, the social insured person can contest this decision by sending a letter to the Caf or (or to the MSA) within two months in order to refer the matter to the amicable appeal committee.

Good to know: the accumulation of the bonus and allowances, to cover moving costs, is prohibited. However (article D542-33 of the Social Security Code), when the amount of these allowances is lower than that of the moving bonus, the difference is paid by the Caf (or the MSA).
