The appointment with the National Food Collection Day returns on Saturday 16 November, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, the initiative promoted by the Food Bank Foundation during which non-perishable food can be purchased to donate to people in difficulty, aided by local partner organizations affiliated with the 21 regional Food Bank offices. In a period of limited availability of food to distribute and growth in demand, the Food Collection becomes even more awaited and precious for those who live in difficulty. In more than 11,600 supermarkets throughout Italy, over 150,000 Food Bank volunteers, recognizable by their orange bib, will invite you to purchase long-life products such as oil, canned vegetables and legumes, canned tomatoes, tuna and canned meat and food for ‘childhood. All donated food will then be distributed to over 7,600 local partner organizations affiliated with the Food Bank (soup kitchens, family homes, communities for minors, listening centres, street units, etc.) which support over 1,790. 000 people.
“The Food Collection is a simple and authentic educational gesture because it is a gift of one’s time, a gift of oneself in becoming a volunteer and a gift of food for those who have none – states Giovanni Bruno, president of the Food Bank Foundation. The Pope, in his message for the VIII World Day of the Poor on Sunday 17 November, calls us to go beyond philanthropy to realize that we are the first in need, thus calling us to the profound sense of sharing needs, to share the sense of life. First of all, the Collection is good for those who do it!” From 16 to 30 November it will also be possible to donate groceries online on some dedicated platforms: to find out about the various methods of purchasing products and the points of sale participating in the initiative, you can consult the website colletta.bancoalimentare.it.
The Food Collection, a gesture with which the Banco Alimentare Foundation adheres to the World Day of the Poor 2024 announced by Pope Francis, is made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Italian National Federation of the Society of San Vincenzo De Paoli ODV, the Cdo Opere Sociali, the Army, the Air Force, the National Alpine Association, the National Bersaglieri Association, and the Lions Club International.
