They are the masters of hygiene.
The Japanese are more imaginative and are keen to take care of their hygiene. The solution that they will present in April 2025 during the next World Expo in Osaka will surprise more than one person. Do you know the washing machine? You will now discover the people washing machine… You read that right.
The Japanese company Science Co, a specialist in “smart” shower heads and bathtubs, has unveiled a prototype of a “personal washing machine” or “human washing machine”. Its name: Mirai Ningen Sentakuki. This machine looks like an airplane cockpit with a transparent cover that opens backwards. The person sits inside and then the device partially fills with hot water. Sensors integrated into the seat measure the person’s pulse and other biological data to ensure the right temperature. At the same time, an artificial intelligence system determines whether the user is calm or excited and projects images inside the machine to make them feel relaxed and refreshed. Washing and drying takes 15 minutes.
Visitors to the April World’s Fair will be able to test the machine; Science Co has indicated that they will have to reserve a 15-minute slot to experience this new type of “washing-drying”. If visitors are attracted, the company could develop a domestic version of the machine – no price has been specified yet. “We are at about 70%,” said the company’s president, Yasuaki Aoyama, quoted by the Japanese newspaper The Asahi Shimbun. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience this futuristic experience in preview.
The idea of this machine for washing people is not new. In fact, the Japanese had already presented one during the 1970 World’s Fair. This machine exhibited by Sanyo Electric Co was called the Ultrasonic Bath. It did not have the expected commercial success. Its creators believed that this was due to the lack of bathrooms in homes. The Japanese washed regularly in public baths. Hopefully the new version will be more popular. Perhaps one day it will arrive in our bathrooms…
