Each start of the year marks the return of Epiphany and, with it, the dismantling of the Christmas tree and decorations. It’s also time to put away baubles, garlands and ornaments. By slightly adapting your storage habits, it is possible to keep these items in good condition until the following holidays.
Are cracked baubles and tangled garlands still part of the ritual when bringing out the Christmas decorations? Thanks to these tips, discover simple and economical storage solutions to find your decor intact next year. Balls and garlands often pose a problem, because they are both fragile and impractical to store. With a few tips and everyday objects already present in your cupboards, it becomes easy to avoid breakage and knots when storing.
Protecting Christmas baubles
If you have set your sights on glitter or sequin balls, wrap them individually in coffee filters before storing them in a box. Small Christmas baubles can be stored in empty egg cartons with dividers.
Avoiding knots in garlands
Garlands tend to get tangled if not carefully wound. Whether they are decorative or equipped with bulbs, the first thing to do before storing your garlands is to wind them using cylindrical elements such as a water bottle. Once done, you can place them in a storage box until next year! Tip: for light garlands, do not hesitate to protect the bulbs before storing them by using pieces of cardboard in which you will cut notches to separate each bulb.
Sort by color
Arranging your Christmas decorations by color is a great way to find your way around. To do this, dedicate a specific box to each color and don’t forget to note the shades if you use cardboard!
Classify your Christmas decoration by type
This method consists of arranging each type of element together: balls with balls, garlands with garlands, etc. By grouping them together in this way, you will be able to adapt the storage method specific to each type of decor while protecting the most fragile elements.
