In its January 2026 issue, the media 60 Millions de Consommateurs carried out a test of the best shower gels at low prices. One of them stands out greatly.
Shower gel is truly one of the cosmetics we use every day. To find the rare gem that takes care of the skin without emptying the wallet, the 60 Million Consumers association sifted through around ten low-cost references. No need to spend hours on the shelves scanning labels with a smartphone: one of them has largely crushed the competition. His strength? An environmentally friendly formula, excellent skin tolerance and, above all, a very low price. To find this Holy Grail, you have to turn to the hygiene section of a famous French supermarket brand. A future favorite that proves that efficiency does not always depend on budget.
To achieve this result, 60 Million Consumers started from a question that we all ask ourselves: are low-cost products less effective than more expensive ones? Are the compositions necessarily bad when the reference only costs a few euros? The media then compared ten shower gels based on several criteria: performance, that is to say the cleaning power and foaming power in relation to the number of substances, then the Cosmeto’Score. The latter is a rating tool set up by the media, it analyzes the components of products and their impact on health and the environment. Thus, on the first step of the podium we find the Care shower gel with sweet almond extract from the U private label.
Sold at the price of €3.75 for 750 ml, it obtains the very good score of 18.8/20 with very strong cleaning power, very good foaming power, and a Cosmeto’Score of B (with the mention A on the health dimension). “The brand stands out from the crowd, both in terms of performance and composition, followed by Cosmia, Le Petit Marseillais and Cien“, writes 60 Million Consumers in its article.
On the last steps of the podium, three soaps obtained the same score: 9.9/20. This is an Eco+ reference (the E.Leclerc brand), Dermomed and Labell, the Intermarché brand. These shower gels are penalized in particular because of the presence of harmful ingredients such as irritating surfactants, sensitizing perfumes and substances that pose a risk to the environment.
