The steps to repaint a dark wall in white
By following these four steps, you put all the odds on your side to cover without traces of your dark wall with a white finish.
- Clean the wall : Preparing the wall to adhere to a layer of paint is essential. Start by filling a large bucket of warm water to which you will add a little soap or water laundry. Then, using a sponge, clean the wall by small circular movements before rinsing with clear water. The objective of this step: withdraw dust, dirt and fats that have been deposited there and created over time.
- Sand the wall : Once the wall is dry, it is time to go to sanding. If this step is recommended, it is however only compulsory if your surface to be painted has roughness or cracks. To smooth the whole, two solutions are available to you: the use of an electric wall sander, or, if the area is unimportant, the sanding holder equipped with glass paper. As for cleaning, make circular movements until you no longer feel any defect. You will finish this step by passing a cloth slightly soaked with water on the wall to remove the last dust residues.
- Apply an underlay : to camouflage and prevent the rise in the pigments of the old paint, the use of an underlay, also called primary, is essential. Once the roller is loaded, generously apply to the wall using the crossing method (from bottom to top, then from left to right). Be careful not to iron too many times in the same places at the risk of creating quarrels! Smooth the underlay, then let it dry. In general, a single layer of primary is enough to cover a dark color.

Respect the drying time between each of them, two to six hours depending on the type of paint used, at the risk of spoiling all the work accomplished beforehand.
