Paper Week returns, the training and information campaign dedicated to separate collection and recycling of paper and cardboard, now in its fifth edition. Organized by Comieco, the National Consortium for the recovery of cellulosic packaging, in collaboration with the paper and graphics federation and Unirima, and with the patronage of Anci, Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety and Utilitarian, Paper Week provides more than 200 appointments throughout Italy, from 7 to 13 April.
A unique opportunity to raise awareness and small on the value and importance of a correct management of cellulosic materials with events such as Exhibitions, educational activities and creative projects with the participation of schoolsassociations, artists, collection managers, municipalities. These are some of the Paperweeker, the realities that for a week will become “recycling ambassadors” by conveying to the schedule of the event spontaneous initiatives that are added to those already planned by Comieco. A network that over the years has become increasingly nourished and active as the numbers confirm.
This year over 150 Paperweeker involved, 206 scheduled events (more than 90 laboratories and workshops, 4 theatrical performances, 12 exhibitions, almost 60 didactic activities, 30 public events, some of which are dedicated to the business world and 8 online initiatives) in all Italian regions15 thousand students already on the list to participate in open recycling, the open day of the country’s paper companies, and a stated goal: exceed the record of 60 thousand participants, achieved last year. “If today the Italians are the champions of Europe in the collection of paper and cardboard, with a percentage of recycling of packaging over 90%, it is also because a strong movement from below was born around the differentiatedwhich materializes during the days of Paper Week, “says the general manager of Comieco, Carlo Montalbetti. “Among the regions with the largest number of spontaneous initiatives, Sicily, Campania, Veneto and Tuscany stand out, a sign that the separate collection of paper and cardboard really combines Italy from north to south”.
The top step of the podium for the number of appointments on the calendar is occupied by Sicily, with 26followed by Campania (23), Veneto (22) and Tuscany (21). Among the most curious initiatives, The activation of workshops at prisons involving prisoners and penitentiary staffcompetitions between schools to those who collect more and better, creative workshops between puppets, birds and cardboard fish or jewels and other works of art made of paper. Always art on paper will be the protagonist of several exhibitions, including one dedicated to the homeless. In short, a calendar to be discovered that will involve above all the new generations. In addition, from 8 to 11 April, the plants of the paper recycling chain and cardboard will open the doors to students and teachers from all over Italy: 120 plants involved between waste management systems, paper mills, cartohechnics and paper museums that will host about 15 thousand guys to discover all the secrets of the process that can give new life to paper.
