Matthias Quiviger or Ragnar Le Breton (his stage name), is a French comedian, actor, MMA practitioner and former basketball player. He was born on December 8, 1989 in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine).
Where does Ragnar Le Breton come from?
He is the grandson of sports journalist Jean-Pierre Delacroix, who died in 2019. “I defend living together. My grandfather, who recently passed away, always brought me up like that, you have to learn to understand, not judge,” he evokes to West France. During his youth, his parents divorced. Following his mother, the young man moved regularly.I grew up in 14 different cities, I moved around a bit” he confides to Actu.fr. His father is “HR in a factory”.
He didn’t study, it was sport that fascinated him. At 17, Matthias Quiviger became a semi-pro basketball player in the Andrézieux-Bouthéon Loire Sud club. “I did a lot of stupid things, but I was good at basketball. I probably could have done a lot better if I had the same passion I found for comedy,” he declares to the Parisian.
After working in the luxury goods trade, he began a career as an actor and, in 2017, joined the Actor’s Laboratory by Hélène Zidi. This is where he chooses his nickname in relation to his origins. “I’m from Saint-Pol-de-Léon. I have family there, my uncles and aunts, grandparents… Real ones. I spent all my holidays there when I was younger, and I even did a year of schooling there. To come back to my name, I’m Breton, I have a beard, I look a bit like Ragnar from the Vikings series… I didn’t bother,” he said to Actu.fr.
In 2021, he began to play a character, Michel Venum, a redneck sports teacher who often gave big slaps… A character who caused him some problems on social networks: “My Instagram has been blocked for 17 months since 2021 for violence, shocking remarks or I don’t know what. It’s a time of small dicks, too many things are taboo, people worry too much. In France, we focus on false problems when we have a great country. Thought, creation and humor are castrated.”
What did Ragnar Le Breton play in?
Ragnar Le Breton has around 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and 1 million subscribers on Instagram. “At first, it was just for fun with my friends. One day I posted a video on Instagram. I had 14 or 15,000 followers. I reopened the app three days later, I had 300,000. I got into it, I received love from people.”
Since 2018, he has played supporting roles in cinema, notably in The Belleville Cop by Rachid Bouchareb, The Great Circus from Booder or even Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom by Guillaume Canet. He has also starred in films on Amazon Prime Video such as A Stunning Christmas with Eric Judor and Number 10. He also starred in the series Cheetahs on MyTF1 and The Little History of France on W9. In 2024, the actor already has other projects: “I already have a few projects in the pipeline for next year, two comedies and something more serious.”
What other activities does Ragnar Le Breton have?
He is a real jack-of-all-trades. In 2022, he presents his first one-man show Heusss. “I talk about my life, a bit like a play. The audience is surprised by the content. Many expect a show for morons, but there is a bit of depth, I defend what is close to my heart: diversity, religions, rednecks, Brittany, sport… I always wanted to do live shows.”
That same year, he also got into mixed martial arts (MMA). His first fight took place in Basel, Switzerland, in early 2023, where he lost to Xavier Lessou. His second match was scheduled a few months later at the Dôme de Paris. Unfortunately, his opponent Daniel Lentie withdrew due to injury two days before the fight.
Is Ragnar Le Breton in a relationship and has children?
Ragnar Le Breton has been married since 2008 to a nursing assistant from Evreux. “I have two children but they can’t watch my videos right now. Even my shows are pretty much 18-year-old rated. So I was happy to be able to share a moment at the cinema with my 9-year-old son. The other one is 2, he’s still too young, but I’m very proud to show him his dad in a project where there’s not just rudeness or violence” he confides to West France talking about the movie An amazing Christmas.
Where does Ragnar Le Breton live?
The father of two children does not live in Paris or in Brittany. “In Normandy. I know the Bretons won’t like it, but I love the Normans. Paris, on the other hand, I can’t live there. It’s a city that can drive you crazy. It’s aggressive, you don’t take the time to laugh, to talk with others.”
